Description
Beautiful, vibrant vintage huipil. Date is unknown, but suspected to date from the 60s. Originally purchased from a textile collector who amassed an extensive number of traditional Mesoamerican garments dating from the 40s to the early 90s.Please note this is a vintage item that has been worn, maybe for generations, and is a lovely example of the craftsmanship and handwork of women from it’s region. It shows wear, is perfectly imperfect and may be worn for many more years to come. Velvet trimmed neck and pink trimmed armholes. Freshly washed with care and ready to be worn. Some pink threads are loose and velvet trimmed collar shows much wear. Please review all photos.
Huipils are traditional garments worn by indigenous women from central Mexico to Central America. They have been worn worn by indigenous women of the Mesoamerican region well before the arrival of the Spanish to the Americas. The many different weaving and embroidery designs are specific to a particular community and indigenous group.
