Tote Bag Shoulder Bag Handmade Leather & Larrainzar Textile Maya Chiapas Mexico

This is a wonderful
Leather and textile Tote Bag
that i just picked up on my recent trip to Chiapas.  The colorful fabric used on this bag was made
by Tzotzil Mayan women of San Andreas Larrainzar
in the highlands of Chiapas Mexico.
The base fabric was
woven on a
back strap loom
with geometric patterns that symbolize the universe. The remainder of this shoulder bag is made of leather.  This bag is
lined and has 2 small pockets
on the inside that close with zippers.  The craftspeople of Chiapas are known for their leather work... this is a
great bag and very versatile.
It measures;  12 1/2 inches wide by 12 inches tall 3 1/2 inches deep with two straps that measure 28 inches in length.  There is also a leather hand hold at the top of the bag so that it can be used like a briefcase....
This is a wonderful example of
Mexican Folk art, and is a very reasonable price
for the amount of work that has gone into creating it!
