Description

This vintage, traditional Central American huipil features a beautiful geometric brocade pattern handwoven on a backstrap loom. The embroidery, in tones from russet to umber to pale gold, forms a powerful, flattering face frame on a soft ecru ground. A line of diamonds adds emphasis to the lower part of the blouse, and rustic, burnt orange cross stitching and edging complete the style details.
Notably, huipiles from this region are always worn sideways. Although the base lines of the blouse are seen here horizontally, during the weaving, the lines are actually the warp, arranged vertically on a loom
This weave allows for a relaxed, flattering drape and and provides a unique appearance and feeling when worn.
