    Description

c1891-1895 Rare Chelsea / Dedham Horse Chestnut Hugh Robertson Era Dinner Plate
Presented is a fabulous Chelsea/Dedham Pottery dinner plate. This piece is made
in the distinctive Horse Chestnut pattern, featuring designs of horse chestnuts
in cobalt blue against the crackled glaze typical of Dedham work. This is a very
desirable pattern in Dedham pieces, and plates of this size in this pattern are
hard to find today. This plate in particular is quite old, dating to circa
1891-1895, prior to the pottery company's move from Chelsea to Dedham. A
fantastic collector's item for use or display.
This piece is in great condition. There are no chips, no cracks, no breaks,
and no repairs. There are some irregularities to the glaze here and there as is
typical of Dedham pieces, but that is original to the making of the piece and
not a sign of any damage or flaw.
The plate is stamped on the underside with the impressed four-leaf clover
mark used by Chelsea Pottery US, as this company was known prior to their move
to Dedham, Massachusetts, where they assumed the Dedham name. This mark was used
circa 1891-1895, so during the time noted Arts & Crafts pottery artist Hugh
    C. Robertson's worked with the company. There is also a mark of E. E. beside it.
The plate is about 10 1/4 inches in diameter.
