th
Anniversary Wooden Nickel, celebrating the city of Bridgeton, New Jersey.
The Anniversary Celebration was held May 17th through 23
rd
of 1936.
This Wooden Nickel is printed 1/Color Blue on both sides of a thin piece of wood.
The note measures a hair over 2-1/8 inches tall
x
4-5/8 inches long.
The obverse of the note has a rendering of the Bridgeton County Court House at the center, along with Uncle Sam holding an outline of New Jersey and pointing to Bridgeton which is located on the drawing.
The 1686 date represents the year that Richard Hancock established a Sawmill there.
The reverse of the note has the seal of the City of Bridgeton, Incorporated in 1895 along with the State Seal of New Jersey.
The note has facsimile signatures of the President, Secretary and the Treasurer of the “250
th
Anniversary Committee”, and clearly states that this Wooden Nickel is redeemable at the offices of the committee on or before May 27, 1936.
The note will ship in a currency holder for added protection.
I grade this note (piece of wood) as Choice
Uncirculated, but you look at the scans and judge the quality for yourself before bidding.
This note would make a fine addition to any New Jersey State Banknote or Ephemera collection.
The Bridgeton is located in Cumberland County, and should appeal to those collecting that Town, County and its surrounding areas.
