Beautiful Vintage Hand-Embroidered Burgundy Red Tehuana Huipil, Mexico

Description

Gorgeous traditional vintage Tehuana huipil of lavish, colorful blooming flowers hand-embroidered in cotton on a deep maroon or burgundy satin-like fabric. The floral design is the same front and back.  It is fully lined in a printed blue material (please see photos).    The huipil is 25 years old or older, and has never been used. It is worn loose, which is very comfortable in hot, humid weather.

These wonderful extravaganzas are made and worn by the Tehuantepec women from the southern isthmus of Mexico.   They are a matriarchal society.  Each huipil is unique and original, and represents the magnificent artistry of an indigenous culture.
